MSTRKRFT, who is Jesse F. Keeler & Al-P, quietly began work on OPERATOR in late 2013 at their Toronto studio, optimizing their analog attack with an arsenal of synths, 808s, 909s and other equipment to track and perform what would eventually become OPERATOR. They left the computer set to “record” and banged out hundreds of hours of music to draw from.
“The ‘operator’ concept for us was essential in the creation of the music on this album, but I’m not sure what came first, the title or the idea,” says Jesse F. Keeler. “While browsing military related websites and blogs, mostly consisting of vets talking to each other like any civilian I suppose, I noticed repeated reference to something they called ‘operator culture.’ It seemed to be something that was sometimes laughed at, sometimes caused disdain, but was referenced constantly and seemed to be understood by everyone. I came to believe the operator concept is one of detachment.”

Mondo Cozmo’s music has all the makings of the soundtrack to the current era and beyond.
He introduces New Medicine with the revved-up snarling rock of “Black Cadillac.” A slithering clean riff snakes around tambourine. On the bridge, everything subsides into a steeple-size chant upheld by handclaps before the affirmation, “I’m alright.” A rush of guitars builds towards the sweeping and soaring “Come On.” Elsewhere, “Generator” climaxes on a glorious chorus of “Come Release Me” bound to be a high point of any and all upcoming gigs.
“Upside Down” tempers a tweaked-out sample and plain-spoken lyrical musings with “a social narrative about watching the news every night” on the edge of an off-kilter guitar solo.
New Medicine is Mondo Cozmo’s second full-length and first release for Last Gang Records.

Mobley is known for his electric one-man performances that get everyone in hearing distance on their feet. In 2018 after a whirlwind stretch of doing just that; festival plays at Lollapalooza and ACL, opening slots for Cold War Kids and Bishop Briggs, Mobley booked a trip to Thailand to take a break.
The break did not last long! After purchasing a knockoff Telecaster in Bangkok on his first day in the country, he began working on new music. Mobley wrote the record as a sonic critique of Western supremacy, a theme he felt even more urgently while not in the United States. He recorded the majority of the guitar lines in an apartment on a remote island in the Gulf of Thailand, then, in one last moment of inspiration, gifted the instrument to a local cab driver he’d befriended.
Back in the U.S., Mobley’s home recording studio awaited, as well as an arsenal of instruments, from piano to trumpet to glockenspiel. It was there that Mobley built out the lush production that characterizes the record.
The record glides between musical idioms with all the ease. Whether he’s cribbing Ennio Morricone, keening over a psychedelic gallop, or indulging in a futuristic art rock strut, Mobley cuts the figure of an artist in command of his powers.

Cry Havoc! is a thrilling introduction to a new sonic and narrative world created by Mobley. With his trademark cinematic sweep, the Austin, TX-based songsmith (and record producer/filmmaker/writer) has delivered a collection of songs that are as captivating as they are catchy.
With Mobley’s last musical project, Young & Dying In The Occident Supreme, the musician added several new textures to his unique brand of futuristic art rock, from flirtations with psychedelia to instrumental flourishes reminiscent of Ennio Morricone. His sonic evolution continues with Cry Havoc!, which also serves as a prelude to a forthcoming science-fiction epic from the prolific artist.
More steeped in narrative than any of Mobley’s previous work, all seven tracks on Cry Havoc! are from the point of view of Jacob Creedmoor, an ordinary man who becomes radicalized into a Robin Hood-esque figure over the course of the EP.
Cry Havoc! will be released via Last Gang Records in September 23, 2022, and is the latest project in a career that has already spanned multiple artistic mediums.
