    Description

    by Joseph Sheridan Lefanu (Author)

Carmilla is a Gothic novella written by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and first published in 1872. The story is set in the 19th century and follows the narrator, Laura, who lives with her father in a castle in Styria, Austria. One day, a mysterious and beautiful woman named Carmilla arrives at the castle and becomes Laura's friend and companion. However, strange occurrences begin to happen, and Laura starts to suspect that Carmilla may not be who she seems. As the story progresses, Laura becomes increasingly drawn to Carmilla, despite her growing suspicions. The two women develop a close, almost romantic relationship, and Carmilla's strange behavior only adds to Laura's confusion and fear. Eventually, Laura discovers that Carmilla is actually a vampire who has been preying on young women in the area for centuries. With the help of her father and a group of vampire hunters, Laura sets out to stop Carmilla and put an end to her reign of terror.Carmilla is considered a classic of Gothic literature and is often cited as an early example of vampire fiction. The novella explores themes of sexuality, gender, and the supernatural, and has influenced countless works of literature, film, and television.Nothing remained to assure us that the adventure had not been an illusion of a moment but the young lady, who just at that moment opened her eyes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
