Horizon marks Noble Oak’s debut for Last Gang Records and is an enchanting collection of post-chillwave pop, a sumptuous suite of sativa songs for hazy, lazy days prompting comparisons to the likes of The War on Drugs, Bob Moses, and Tame Impala. “My intent from day one was literally to make the most beautiful songs that I possibly can,” says Fiore. “And to hope that the world can understand that and see it.”
This new material was written when the 27-year-old was witnessing “a lot of breaking points and emotional extremity,” in both his personal life and the world around him. As always, music provided a therapeutic method of exploring “the notion of whether it’s crazy to think I’m going crazy,” he says.
For Fiore, the concept of the horizon has spiritual overtones—which is why his third full-length is titled Horizon. As someone born and raised beside the Pacific Ocean in Vancouver, B.C., the horizon represents a calming, stabilizing presence in a hostile world. During a brief two-year stint in Toronto recently, Fiore felt adrift, in part because he had to climb to the roof of his house to get any sense of expanse. Now back on the West Coast, he has an apartment where the ocean is within sight. The horizon is always visible, beckoning. For Fiore, it represents “possibility, a centre, the edge of the earth, unimaginable infinity.”
Noble Oak’s music is a beautiful balm recognizable to anyone seeking respite from the tumult of today’s headlines. We’re all searching for the horizon, and this is music that will soundtrack the journey.

Rhye, the project of Los Angeles-based musician Michael Milosh, announces his new album, Home, out January 22, 2021 on Last Gang Records in Canada. Following 2018's Blood, Home is centered around the idea of home as the core of creativity and community. It’s familiar in its synthesis of propulsive beats, orchestral flourishes, piano ruminations and sultry, gender-nonconforming vocals, but never have they sounded more cohesive or alive.
Since the release of Rhye’s 2013 debut Woman, Milosh mostly lived on the road, playing up to one hundred shows a year and decamping in Toronto, Montreal, Thailand, the Netherlands, Germany and Los Angeles. On the heels of some major life changes, including a new relationship with Genevieve Medow-Jenkins, he yearned for a more permanent space, a balm for the restless spirit and a place to simply be.
Written throughout 2019 and early 2020, Home was recorded at United Recording Studios, Revival at The Complex (Earth, Wind, & Fire), as well as Milosh’s home studio, and mixed by Alan Moulder (Nine Inch Nails, Interpol, My Bloody Valentine).

Rhye’s new eight-track piano project, Spirit, follows his JUNO-award winning sophomore album Blood. Born out of falling in love with playing the piano again, Spirit captures the subtle magic of gentle moments.
"About a year and a half ago, my girlfriend surprised me with a borrowed piano," Milosh says. "It wasn’t in the best shape, but it made itself at home in my apartment and I started playing it every morning… just messing around at first, but it slowly became a morning ritual I couldn’t shake." Out of the many sketches, Spirit started to take shape. "It's a collection of songs I did alone in the studio with just a piano, intertwined with collaborations with some of my favorite piano-based musicians."
One such musician is Dan Wilson (formerly of Semisonic with co-writing credit on Adele's "Someone Like You"), who co-wrote Needed. On the track, Milosh and Wilson's songwriting chemistry is evident.
Elsewhere on Spirit, Ólafur Arnalds adds plush piano chords and lilting melodies to the relaxed, beat-driven, Patience, while Thomas Bartlett layers wistful, dancing piano refrains to the project's yearning finale, Save Me, which he co-wrote and arranged with Milosh.

Louis Prince is the moniker of Orange County, CA artist Jake McMullen, and serves as the new platform for his debut record, Thirteen.

Mondo Cozmo’s music has all the makings of the soundtrack to the current era and beyond.
He introduces New Medicine with the revved-up snarling rock of “Black Cadillac.” A slithering clean riff snakes around tambourine. On the bridge, everything subsides into a steeple-size chant upheld by handclaps before the affirmation, “I’m alright.” A rush of guitars builds towards the sweeping and soaring “Come On.” Elsewhere, “Generator” climaxes on a glorious chorus of “Come Release Me” bound to be a high point of any and all upcoming gigs.
“Upside Down” tempers a tweaked-out sample and plain-spoken lyrical musings with “a social narrative about watching the news every night” on the edge of an off-kilter guitar solo.

Loving's intimate, lo-fi psychedelic folk songs inspire a sense of ease while being deceptively intricate. The songs offer a space to ruminate on life's uncertainties and acknowledge the often strange journey of being alive.
With lyrics written by both Jesse and Lucas, the lush, homespun collection of songs were recorded to tape, mixed, and mastered by David in his self-described “cold, dismal” basement studio in Victoria. In contrast, these songs are balmy and inviting, a series of open-ended questions that circle the uncertainties of existence.
“There isn't a single narrative driving this album, but we do linger on some basic human problems: confusion in the face of a desire for self-knowledge and belonging, a struggle for meaning that is circular and sometimes seemingly endless," Jesse says. They are fodder for further contemplation, delivered with a peaceful naturalism in the vein of contemporaries like Bedouine and Kevin Morby.
