Prolific Toronto-bred producer and musical polymath Harrison is the man behind a catalog of projects with a cult following that belies his age. Barely into his twenties and still demoing ideas in his bedroom, Harrison developed an aesthetic signature influenced by Samurai Champloo, J Dilla, Nujabes, Nintendo and Parliament that was first floated on the 2013 Analogue Dreams EP and refined by the arrival of his critically-acclaimed, JUNO-nominated 2016 debut album Checkpoint Titanium, which followed his signing to Last Gang Records after a brief stint in college. Graduating from sample-based production to full-fledged composition and instrumental arrangement in subsequent years, Harrison returns with a clearly articulated, eleven-track blend of funk and future sounds entitled Apricity.

Alice Ivy’s first foray into music, an ill-fated tryst with the clarinet, was swapped for guitar before she began beat-making inspired by the likes of The Avalanches and J Dilla. In 2016 the 24-year old artist- producer released “Touch” and “Almost Here” amassing more than 2M plays on Spotify. Her September showcase at BIGSOUND 2016 in Brisbane was widely reported as one of the best of the conference. In March 2017, she released “Get Me A Drink”, added to high rotation on triple j and in September 2017 she served up “Be Friends”, also added to high rotation on triple j. Together the songs have over 1.5M streams. In 2018 Alice Ivy released her latest sing “Chasing Stars” which features ARIA-award winning, singer-songwriter, Bertie Blackman.
In the last 18-months, she has performed more than 100 shows in 4 continents including lead supports for the likes of Foster The People (US), Oh Wonder (UK), Billie Eilish (UK) Urthboy, Remi and E^ST. She will perform at SXSW 2018. Her debut album, I’m Dreaming is out now.

Montreal’s Stars today return with the announcement of their first new album in five years, From Capelton Hill, set for release on May 27TH, 2022, via Last Gang Records/MNRK. The album’s two lead singles showcase the band of Torquil Campbell, Evan Cranley, Amy Millan, Chris McCarron, Patty McGee, and Chris Seligman, at their very best. Triumphant and romantic, “Pretenders” embraces a Thelma and Louise-level commitment to seeing things through, and was written by Millan as a “love letter” to Campbell and her memories of the band’s origins. “Snowy Owl,” the album’s tender, acoustic closer, finds Millan and Campbell swapping verses and once again taking the role of two characters that try to stay together but instead keep destroying one another. Campbell says the track is the epilogue to their stories: “I don’t know what comes after,” he says. “I just make records about other people and in the end, they turn out to be about me.”
From Capelton Hill, Stars’ ninth album and follow-up to 2017’s acclaimed There Is No Love In Fluorescent Light, was composed between Seligman and Cranley over the first half of 2020. After a first attempt to assemble the record remotely with mixed results, the band convened in Montreal to record with Marcus Paquin and Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes) at Studio MixArts, Lasek’s Breakglass Studio, and the band’s own space, Zoomer. McGee says once they finally gathered in a room together, everything clicked—first as friends, then as a working band. From Capelton Hill is ultimately about a group of people who have spent more than 20 years together, and who have now started to face the awful, necessary calculus each human eventually must do: when will all of this end?

Wilder’s reputation as a talented multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter emerged in the Brooklyn indie rock scene of the late 2000s, where he joined his bandmates in painting on the eclectic palette of synths, strings, and harmonies that defined Yeasayer’s acclaimed psychedelic worldbeat and swerving electro-pop experiments. He was at home writing and fronting big hits like Yeasayer’s “O.N.E.,” and “Wait for the Summer,” but the spirit of community always pervaded his surprising collaborations, from the guest-star-studded recordings of the peculiar rock musical album Break Line (2014) that Wilder composed with college friend Maxwell Kardon, to his occasional production credits for fellow travelers like Suckers and Das Racist.
With I Don’t Know My Words, Wilder torques his multi-instrumentality away from electronica and global genre-hopping and makes it a lonely lockdown challenge. Aside from ambient documentary noise of family life and New York’s mysteriously pervasive rash of fireworks, he played every sound on the album, from a plucked cello on “Get More Than My Share” to the bowed acoustic guitars heard in “Sick Hotel,” which simulate a string section. In oscillating textures of dulcimers, twelve-strings, and tumbling, song-serving drums, he arpeggiates, beats, and blasts out moments of elevated feeling from tedium and routine. Ten songs, in braided strands of English folk revival, Topanga Canyon jangle, and desert blues licks, offer taut documents of a gloomy hour of collective confinement, but also elegant proofs of folk rock songcraft’s inexhaustible machinery. Wilder reveals vulnerable moments of pandemic panic and addresses the challenges of love and dedication as he follows New York’s path through the worldwide emergency, and as he confronts the personal, political, and professional reckonings that spanned it.
